✪ Plane: F/A-18C Hornet Lote-20
✪ Location: Persian Gulf
✪ Files: Mission
✪ Type: familiarisation flight

Situation:
On the 2nd of December 2018. Carrier Strike Group 3 sailed into the U.S Fifth fleets area of operational control, The Persian Gulf.  Shortly after entering the Gulf, one of the Pilots From VFA-151 (Vigilantes) Was overcome by an undiagnosed medical condition. The Pilot was medevac’d to Al-Dafra Air-force base and is unlikely to re-join the carrier air wing. You have been transferred from Naval Air Station Lemoore to integrate into the Vigilantes.

During this mission, you will perform a FAM Flight (familiarisation Flight) Throughout the Persian Gulf AO. Rendezvous with Springfield, (flight of 2x F/A-18’s) They have been sent to escort you back to the Stennis. You will carry out Air to Air refuelling operations over UAE airspace before proceeding along the coast to rendezvous with the Carrier Strike Group Off the Coast of Oman. During this mission you will become familiar with the Real-World tactical situation in The Persian Gulf.

Tasking:
  • Fly in formation with Sprinfield flight.
  • Conduct aerial refueling operations.
  • Stay in formation with SpringField during FAM Flight
  • Perform Case 1 recovery aboard the Stennis.

Note:
  • On mission start, fly straight and level at 320 knots untill instructed to join formation. The less you deviate from your course line, the easier it will be to get into formation.
  • This Mission is Heavily scripted, follow your prescribed flight plan and stay in formation with Spring Field 1.
  • This is a 60-minute FAM  (Familiarisation) flight through the Persian Gulf.
  • The mission is fully voiced and scripted.
  • You will be flying in formation with 2x F/A-18’s
  • Conducting Aerial refuelling operations
  • Case 1 recovery aboard the Stennis.
  • While researching this mission, I was amazed at just how little I knew about this region, and what was happening in the Persian Gulf today. During this FAM flight you’ll be briefed on the Tactical Situation in the Gulf. The truth is always stranger than fiction.
  • FAM flights are normally a dull and Dreary experience, But I think you’ll find this very different.
  • You will find your “Hands on” for the whole flight and there is more than enough to keep you engaged during the 60-minute mission.
  • I have tried to accurately reproduce a “real world” scenario that a Navy pilot would be faced with today.
