Real Life: JTAC in action!

JTAC & CCT Training • Calling Down A-10 Warthog Fire
Joint Terminal Attack Controllers (JTAC) are specially qualified service members who direct combat aircraft from a forward position while engaged in close air support and offensive air support operations. U.S. Air Force Combat Control Teams (CCT) are ground combat forces specialized in air traffic control, fire support and command, control, and communications in covert or austere environments. CCTs are often assigned individually or as a team to Army Special Forces, Army Rangers, and Navy SEALs to provide expert air support coordination and communications capabilities. Many CCTs also qualify and maintain proficiency as joint terminal attack controllers. This video shows two clips of JTACs and CCTs calling for fire support from A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft (Warthogs). 1st Clip: U.S. Marine Corps JTACs work with A-10 pilots during a live-fire exercise at Savannah Combat Readiness Training Center (CRTC) in Townsend, GA on May 20, 2014. 2nd Clip: A U.S. Air Force Combat Control Team call in A-10s during a live ordnance drop near Nellis AFB in Nevada on September 23, 2011.
